The sheer idea that someone could be so stupid as to think that the Flood doesn't exist is insane. The one moment where I can't just ignore though is Awakening the Nightmare. All of these great villains make the new ones (The Speaker, Uhkan and Queen Reyna) look terrible because they don't have a plan outside of stop the heroes with bigger bullet stoppers than the last ones. The only one of these plans that doesn't lead to the death of a main character is Karn's big brain plans because Gears Judgement was weird. RAAM's ambush of Kim, Skorge's riftworm and prisoners, Myyrah's attack on the island and all of Karn's big brain seventy nine trillion IQ strats make them a threat. Turning the seemingly random bunch of engagements into a horrid realization because you notice you've been played. The Locusts for the most part are just bullet stoppers but in each of the OG titles their commanders (RAAM, Skorge, Myyrah, and Karn) all have a plan that is revealed later to the players. Just thinking about this reminds me of Gears of War. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in Halo Infinite the Banished are just bullet stoppers for 5 hours with the new commander shit talking us every step of the way even as we shove a rocket up his ass and salute him to his demise. I didn't love Halo Wars 2 but the Banished felt like an actual threat and when the Spirit pulls out a win it feels so much better. Alot of post war content has felt like a Saturday morning cartoon with Jul shaking his fist screaming "i'll get you next time!" as the heroes blow up this weeks super weapon. I know it's easier to write stories that way and give the humans their heroic comeback by ignoring logic but just making the covenant a group of bumbling idiots cheapens the success of the heroes. Respectively, Tarturus refusing to acknowledge Guilty Spark's speech about the rings not being holy, the entirety of the The Great Schism, Truth letting both Mercy and Regret die to gain more power and the Covenant basically doing nothing to stop An Amber Clad despite knowing damn well they were operating on Delta Halo. Hell I can name the exact moments in Halo 2's campaign when all of these come together. Halo 2 makes this perfectly clear, it's the core of the game's campaign and what leads to the great schism. The flaws of the covenant are religious fanaticism, social incompatibility, political jargon and a very severe lack of fucks to human operations. They seem to of just written the covenant as a threat only because of their technological superiority and made them incomprehensibly stupid. I don't think it's a secret that many people really hate what 343i have done in portraying the Covenant. This group, perhaps even more than the Flood, has plagued the UNSC with their fixation on the Great Journey. Updated Octoby Amanda Hurych: Even though the primary antagonists of Halo Infinite are the Banished, their origins stem from the Covenant as we saw them in the first three Halo games. Throughout the many tales told, some things about them just don't make any sense. Halo is no exception, and the Covenant - the primary antagonist in the first three games - is especially knotted. Throughout the great mainline series, spin-off games, and countless books (as well as comics, anime, and the new Paramount Plus television series), the lore of this sci-fi shooter has been expanded in every direction. The Halo universe is rich with side stories, factions, in-fights, and wars.
